- National policies and legislation:

- Ratified international treaties:
- 1954/1967: ratification of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol.
- 2004: ratification of the 2000 Protocol on Trafficking in Persons.
- 2006: ratification of the 2000 Protocol on Smuggling of Migrants.
The main ministries in charge of migration affairs in Sweden:
- Ministry of Justice: Together with its subordinate authorities it is the main body dealing with migration affairs, including immigration (entry, residence); the asylum procedure and reception of asylum seekers; border management and irregular migration; integration; return and repatriation.
- Ministry of Employment: has the main responsibility for integration policy (together with other Ministries).
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs: visa and consular affairs; development and foreign policy aspects of migration.
