The main migration policy instruments in Hungary:

- National policies and legislation:

- Ratified international treaties:
- 1989: ratification of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its 1967 Protocol.
- 2006: ratification of the 2000 Protocols on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants.
The main ministries in charge of migration affairs:
- Ministry of Interior: Together with its subordinate authorities it is the main body dealing with migration affairs, including immigration (entry, residence); border management; the reception of asylum seekers and the asylum procedure; social integration; relations with third countries.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade: participates in the elaboration of migration policy and is in charge of development cooperation on migration; foreign policy related aspects of migration; visa and consular affairs.
