Rabat Process Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) on 2-3 May 2017 in Brussels.

Under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Belgium, around 60 Rabat Process partner countries and organisations will gather in Brussels to discuss the future political and operational priorities of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process).

The meeting marks the official launch of preparations for the fifth Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development, to be held in early 2018. In particular, the SOM will contribute to defining the Rabat Process’ future multi-annual cooperation programme and strategic framework for the period of 2017-2020, which will be adopted at the Ministerial Conference.

Against the context of current and future migration challenges, senior officials will exchange views on policy frameworks. The basis for these discussions will be the Rabat Process’ current multi-annual cooperation programme (Rome Programme 2014-2017), the Joint Valletta Action Plan adopted at the Valletta Summit on Migration (November 2015), the Rabat Process Analysis Report for the Senior Officials Meeting of 8-9 February 2017 in Malta as well as the Joint Conclusions developed by both Rabat Process and Khartoum Process within the context of this meeting.

The Rabat Process Senior Officials Meeting will focus on establishing a common understanding of the migratory and political context in which the Rabat Process is currently evolving, such as the Africa-EU Partnership and the follow-up to the Valletta Summit on Migration. In addition, the activities and achievements of the previous implementation period of the Rabat Process (2014-2017) will be presented. Thematic and political priorities that should be taken into account by the multi-annual cooperation programme for the period of 2017-2020 will be discussed. The SOM will provide an important platform for partner countries to discuss their respective priorities and reach common ground.
