The updated calendar of activities for 2021 features a diverse programme in each of the four strands of activities, including dialogue meetings, knowledge-building activities, reference countries’ actions and communication activities. While all dialogue meetings in the first half of 2021 remained virtual due to the Covid-19 health crisis, face-to-face meetings are taking place again from September onwards.

Although this year’s programme has been yet again overshadowed by the global Covid-19 pandemic, a wide variety of activities has been implemented in the framework of the Dialogue. These included a “Rabat Process” labelled meeting led by France, which piloted a hybrid in-person/online participation format, the first actions led by reference countries for protection and asylum and a number of virtual meetings.

The remainder of 2021 will be marked by a Senior Officials’ Meeting, with the handover of the Chairmanship from Equatorial Guinea to Spain, and a Thematic Meeting on Legal Migration, which will be co-chaired by Portugal and Cabo Verde.
