Inter-state consultation mechanisms on migration, such as the Rabat Process, play an important role in the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), which was endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly (UN GA) in December 2018. The GCM is the first intergovernmental agreement in the framework of the UN to cover all dimensions of international migration in a comprehensive manner. In view of the upcoming International Migration Review Forum 2022, the Rabat Process Secretariat published an assessment of activities organised since December 2018, to establish where the Rabat Process activities align with the objectives of the GCM. The International Migration Review forum, hosted by the UN GA, will meet for the first time on 17-20 May 2022 to review the progress made at the local, national, regional and global levels in implementing the GCM.
